Animal Proteins Found in Some Skincare.

(Obvs Skincare Does Not Use The Following Non-Vegan Ingredients) -

- Collagen is a fibrous protein found in vertebrates' connective tissue. Bone, teeth, cartilage, ligaments, sinews, and skin all include various kinds. It's made from "slaughterhouse waste" such as cartilage, sinew, and skin from cattle and fish. Collagen is used in cosmetics as an anti-wrinkle ingredient and as a humectant.
Collagen amino acids, hydrolyzed collagen, and its derivatives, as well as processed collagen, are utilised as cosmetic ingredients. Collagen is also utilised in anti-wrinkle injections in cosmetic surgery.

There is currently no direct vegan equivalent to animal-based collagen because collagen is derived from animal proteins. Some vegans try to boost collagen formation in their bodies by consuming fruits and vegetables that promote collagen development. If you don't have the time or energy to make significant dietary adjustments, supplements that mimic this effect are available.

Plant-based foods high in all three amino acids (which boost the natural production of collagen) include:

  • soy products
  • black beans
  • kidney beans
  • seeds: especially pumpkin, squash, sunflower, and chia
  • nuts: pistachio, peanut, and cashew

- Keratin is a protein found in animals' ground horns, hooves, claws, nails, hair, scales, and feathers. Keratin is a hair and skin conditioner used in some cosmetics. Obvs Skincare uses Organic Unrefined Shea Butter instead.
Hydrolyzed Keratin – Chemically altered keratin. In cosmetics, it's used as an antistatic, film-forming agent, humectant, and skin and hair conditioner. Obvs Skincare uses Organic Unrefined Shea Butter instead.

- Elastin is a fibrous, elastic protein found in the connective tissue of animals. The aortae (largest arteries) of calves and other elastic "slaughterhouse waste" rich in connective tissue, such as the neck ligaments, are used to make Elastin. In cosmetics, it acts as a skin conditioner and smoothing agent. Obvs Skincare uses Organic Unrefined Shea Butter instead.

- Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin that helps cells develop and function properly. It can be found in varying levels in a variety of foods, including yeast, liver, kidney, egg yolk, soybeans, almonds, and cereals. It's usually made by synthesising petroleum compounds, but it can also come from cysteine. Found in some shampoos and cosmetic creams with hair and skin conditioning properties (Vitamin H, also known as Vitamin B7). Obvs Skincare uses Organic Unrefined Shea Butter instead.
