Help! My cream has melted!

The creams are oil-based, therefore do not require preservatives, and have a very long shelf life - I just ask you to please keep them in a cool and dry place. As with all natural butters that are not chemically refined, they are prone to melting in direct sunlight. If this does happen - don't sweat! Just pop it in the fridge, give it a mix and it will be good to go!

Is Obvs Skincare certified Organic?

Certainly am! Obvs Skincare is certified Soil Association COSMOS Organic. This is a prestigious achievement in which I am extremely proud of. You can read more about their strict policies here.

What does organic actually mean?

Organic products are made using organically grown produce that does not get contaminated with pesticides, herbicides, or other toxic chemicals. This means that organic skincare is much safer, avoiding harmful substances that often aggravate the skin.

Why should I use vegan products?

Vegan skincare is much less likely to irritate the skin thanks to using fewer but higher quality ingredients. Vegan means that no ingredients within the product are made from animals or their by-products. This includes things such as honey and beeswax. Vegan skincare is typically not tested on animals. There are exceptions in certain countries, however, where requirements are different to those of the UK.

Is Obvs Skincare certified Vegan?

Yes! In fact, Obvs Skincare is certified Vegan by The Vegan Society themselves! To learn more about their strict guidelines click here

Do you use biodegradable packaging?

I sure do! All Obvs packaging is plastic-free and is as minimal as possible. It has been designed to pair well with my products, keeping it fresh and secure while being completely biodegradable (full size products). The travel size products come in handy, reusable, and recyclable tins.

Tell me more about your biodegradable packaging.

The full-size tubs are carefully and thoughtfully, handmade by me – Sian Louise. The cardboard tubs are made from recycled paper. I carefully line each with a sustainable coconut and rapeseed wax, and attach thin sheets of sustainable cork to keep the skincare fresh and secure. Once finished, these tubs can be put into your compost heap to naturally biodegrade – without leaving a footprint on our planet. They can also be easily recycled – just remember to clean off any excess product before putting into the recycling.

Why should I switch to organic?

Making the switch to organic can be life changing for many. Many decide to go organic when they’re pregnant, have sensitive skin, or because they’re fed up with over-the-counter products. Organic is more natural and avoids harsh chemicals. Thus, you will no longer suffer with skin irritation and potential health problems caused by inorganic cosmetics.

Are organic products better for the environment?

Absolutely! Organic products are free from toxic chemicals that affect soil health and ecosystems. Better yet, organic farming completely eliminates the use of synthetic substances. These substances are very damaging to soil and wildlife.

I use eco-friendly packaging to minimise any damage to the planet.

Do you test on animals?

Never! This is something I am completely against. I would never test our products on animals and strive to be an ethical business. All raw ingredient suppliers are proactively monitored to ensure our products continue to adhere to the Leaping Bunny criteria.

Are you cruelty-free certified?

Yes we are! Obvs Skincare is Leaping Bunny  approved so you know our products are ethical and are made with love.

Obvs Skincare believes that skincare products should be cruelty free. We are proud to be Leaping Bunny approved. A global programme, Leaping Bunny requires cruelty free standards over and above legal requirements.

All of our own brand skincare and personal care products are approved under the Cruelty Free International Leaping Bunny programme, the internationally recognisable gold standard for cruelty free products. We adhere to a fixed cut-off date policy and proactively monitor our suppliers to ensure that our products continue to adhere to the Leaping Bunny criteria. Our supplier monitoring system is also independently audited.

Controversy surrounding palm oil

I do not use palm oil here at Obvs Skincare. It contributes to deforestation and animal endangerment on a global scale, which is something I do not want involvement in. Many products contain palm oil, but many vegans and those who are environmentally-conscious choose to avoid it. There are, however, sustainable palm oil sources, but if you are confused, it’s best to steer clear altogether.

What chemicals do you use to clean your Obvs artisan lab?

I only use Soil Association Organic certified cleaning products throughout my manufacturing process – from surfaces to laundry.

How long does it take for the creams to work?

Don’t we all wish everything happened in an instant? Typically, when it comes to our skincare, it can take around 4-6 weeks before you see improvements. This is because on average, we have a 28 day skin cell turnover rate. Oftentimes, you can see results sooner, but it’s best to wait before judging. The Organic Intensive Skin Recovery Cream typically starts showing improvements in just 24 hours depending on the skin issue.

Can the creams be used on oily skin?

My products are designed for all skin types, but if you have any concerns feel free to get in touch before purchasing.

I specifically formulated the moisturisers for oily skin. I have oily/acne prone skin and use the naked moisturiser as a cleanser (using a hot cloth) followed by the morning mandarin moisturiser in the morning and evening lavender at night. They absorb really well and you only need a tiny bit. It sounds counterintuitive using an oil based product on oily skin, however, when we use a water based cleanser (for example), it can strip our skin of natural oil and we therefore overproduce sebum (oil) to compensate. You are better off fighting fire with fire (or oil with oil in this case).

Which cream is right for me?

This can be a tricky decision, so let me help break it down for you.

The Organic Intensive Skin Recovery Cream is the ideal choice if you’re dealing with sores and you want to heal problem areas. It’s suitable for adults and children who may be prone to eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, rosacea, acne, spots, nappy rash and to heal minor burns. This isn’t a moisturiser, but it can be used alongside my Organic Moisturisers.

Get cosy with the Lavender Moisturiser. Designed for night time use, the lavender oil will help you relax so you can fall into a deeper sleep. Lavender has been a natural sleep remedy for 100s of years, and adding it to your evening skincare routine can transform how you sleep. Made using organic, raw ingredients and essential oil, this moisturiser will soothe the skin leaving it soft and supple.

When the morning comes, switch to our Mandarin Moisturiser for glowing skin. Mandarin is packed with vitamin C and is historically referred to as a ‘Children’s Remedy’ due to its non-irritating nature. Boasting plenty of antioxidants, frequent use will reduce the appearance of dark circles, discolouration and wrinkles - helping to aid cell rejuvenation. Again, this product contains 100% natural ingredients, and certainly no artificial fragrance or synthetics.

The moisturisers are suitable for adults and children who may be prone to eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, acne and have dry skin or oily skin. They’re perfect to use under makeup too.

How do I apply the cream?

As our products contain high-quality concentrated ingredients, a little goes a long way. If applying to your face, only a pea-sized amount is required. Apply a small amount to the skin and rub in gently. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.

Always do a patch test first in case of any undiagnosed allergies to any of the natural ingredients.

Are your products safe for pregnant or nursing individuals?

Absolutely! In fact, they are designed with pregnant people in mind. Every ingredient is natural AND perfectly safe for pregnant, and nursing individuals to use.

Are your products suitable for children?

The organic nature of our products make them gentle enough for use on children and newborns. No harsh chemicals have been added, and every ingredient is perfectly natural.

Are your products suitable for pets?

The Organic Intensive Skin Recovery Cream is not suitable for dogs as it contains a higher dose of zinc oxide which can be toxic to them in large quantities – don’t worry, I am formulating a pet specific cream soon so keep an eye out!

When will I receive my order?

All orders will be sent via Royal Mail. My products are made to order by myself. At the moment, I am a one women band working a part time corporate job to fund my skincare business – but I have big plans for the future! Your order will be sent out 3-4 working days after purchase. Royal Mail should send you updates along the way, but if you have any issues don’t hesitate to get in touch.

How long will my products last?

As every product is made to order, freshness is guaranteed. However, our products do have a 12 month shelf life. This information can be found on the label of all products. A little goes a very long way, as the saying goes “buy cheap, buy twice” – this isn’t the case with my products – each will last you at least twice as longer than any cheaper, unnatural, water based products on the market.

How are your products preserved?

The beauty of my products is that they’re completely natural and don’t require synthetic preservatives as they are oil based. In order to prevent oxidization, vitamin E and herbal extracts are used which are approved by the Soil Association for use in organic products.

Why are organic products more expensive than regular products?

Organic products, including mine, are much better value for money thanks to being super concentrated. You’ll only need a tiny amount per use so each tub will last longer.

My ingredients are also sourced from ethical practices where those involved are paid a fair wage. The ingredients I use are of the highest quality and are often raw and always natural. This drums up the costs, but I do try to keep prices as affordable as possible. I am not in this to become a millionaire. The marvellous sense of wellbeing – knowing I have helped your little one with their nappy rash, or given you more confidence in your own skin is worth more to me than any amount of money.

Do you offer collection?

I am afraid not. My purpose built lab is situated in my garden, myself and my husband have decided that it is not practical to offer customer collections from our family home.
