Why we skip the rosemary oil hype for our organic scalp oil

The carnosic acid myth
Many articles claim that rosemary oil is packed with carnosic acid which helps cells turn over and encourages hair to grow. The problem is that the essential oil itself barely contains any carnosic acid at all. This specific compound is found in the woody plant material rather than the distilled oil used in most beauty products. So that miracle ingredient claim you see online is not exactly true.
What the science actually says
There have been a few studies worth looking at. One piece of research looked at rosemary leaf extract in mice and suggested it might block DHT. This is the hormone frequently linked to androgenetic alopecia or pattern hair thinning.
Another well known study compared rosemary essential oil to five percent minoxidil in humans over six months. While hair growth did improve, the results relied on a very specific concentration of a compound called 1,8-cineole. This had to be applied twice daily for half a year to see any change. The issue for consumers is that not all rosemary oils have the same chemical profile. Depending on where the plant grew or how it was harvested, the levels of active compounds can vary wildly, making it an unreliable choice for consistent results.
